Indistinctly signed, titled Red Dot, dated 2007 and numbered 3/10 on the reverse. The color photograph is face-mounted to acrylic and backed with a white PVC (Sintra) panel.
The title, Red Dot, adds an element of ambiguity, with no obvious red dot appearing in the image. Seen from behind, the two figures remain anonymous, their contrasting head coverings—the man’s dark hat and the woman’s white wrap—becoming the image’s most immediately recognizable features. What they are gazing at remains a mystery, leaving the scene uncomfortably unresolved.
The title is what keeps me looking. There’s no obvious red dot, the figures give almost nothing away, and whatever they’re looking at remains just out of reach. I like that the picture never quite resolves itself. And I own that hat.
